Day 1 & 2: Happy Valentine's Day from Venice!

Ciao di Venezia!

Thank you so much for your patience on Wednesday. Once we all boarded the bus and got to Newark, we had a smooth trip to Italy! We were so grateful to arrive, especially after we heard reports about school closing on Thursday. We hope you are all safe and stayed warm during the snow!

A tour guide met us at the airport and took us to the hotel via boat. Despite being exhausted, we traveled to the center of Venice to explore, shop, and get snacks. After it began raining in the afternoon, we headed back towards the hotel (most students fall asleep on the boat ride!) We rested before dinner and enjoyed a hearty three course meal at the hotel! (Except for the boys who were TOO TIRED to even walk downstairs...)

Today we explored towns on three separate islands near our hotel. We are enjoying the extra freedom the early flight has allowed us before the other two schools arrive to join our tour group. We saw Burano, a town known for lace-making, where some students enjoyed nutella crepes, cappucinos, and other Italian snacks. We saw Torcello, the oldest inhabited island with a beautiful Byzantine church; we even translated the Latin inscriptions inside! Finally, we shopped around in Murano, a town know for glass-blowing. I suspect that some of you may be receiving gifts from these three places. Tomorrow we begin our official touring of Venice with school groups from Tuckahoe and California.
